msg.exe / netsend - anything availible on Windows 7?

On XP, I used to communicate through my network for fun via netsend. 

I've googled, and apparently msg.exe replaced it in vista?

What about Win7?

Hi Shankopotamus,

Welcome to Microsoft Windows 7 Forums.

Windows 7 does not support msg.exe and net send commands to send messages over network.

    Thanks. I did that, and can send messages to myself OK, so your solution works... however I can't to anyone else.

    So I'm guessing you have to copy the files on every PC, which wouldn't be practical, sadly :-(

    Solved:

    1. First, go to C:\Windows\winsxs\amd64_microsoft-windows-t..commandlinetoolsmqq_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7600.16385_none_851e6308c5b62529

    (Copy and pasting that location works just as well as manually finding it.)

    You should find three files: Msg.exe , Quser.exe, and qwinsta.exe .

    Copy these files to your C:\Windows\system32 folder

    1. Next, go to C:\Windows\winsxs\amd64_microsoft-windows-t..etoolsmqq.resources_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7600.16385_en-us_7bef78d9f4a6a8ac

    You should find three similarly named files, except these will end with .mui.

    1. Copy all three of these files to your C:\Windows\system32\en-US folder.

     4. Now try running the msg program. It should work without issue.

    Hi!

    Example that works fine on W7 Professional and all the computers are in the same network:

    MSG /SERVER:DESTINYPCNAME * /TIME:10 "Hello my friend!"

    Bye!

    Im sorry, no I cant.  Im no expert, just a jobbing user who managed to achieve what I wanted by doing the method(s) I posted.  I dont claim to know anything further, so cant offer any more than I have already written on this subject.  Maybe other posters/readers with more knowledge than me will help though.
