How to Troubleshoot Bluetooth devices!

I'm having a similar problem with a Microsoft Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000.  I set the mouse to 'discoverable', Windows finds the mouse, lists it in the find new hardware screen, I click it, it installs, the icon appears in my hardware list for ~10 seconds and then disappears. The mouse never actually works. It never gives an error message, it just spontaneously forgets the mouse immediately after installation. I have installed the Bluetooth hardware drivers from the laptop manufacturer, and Microsoft does not have specialized drivers for this mouse (it just uses the standard Bluetooth HID mouse drivers) 

I happen to know the mouse works and the Bluetooth hardware on this Laptop works mainly because this in a MacBook Pro and the mouse works fine in Mac OS X (of course). Lol, so my Microsoft mouse doesn't work with Microsoft Windows 7 but it does work with Mac OS X, ain't that a kick in the head.

The reply by Bobby Mikkelson did not solve my problem. Windows 7 finds it OK but it wont keep it connected.

Also, this problem is new (for me) for Windows 7, I used Windows XP previously on this machine and the mouse worked fine.

I recently purchased an ASUS N61J Series with WIndows 7. I have been having some major issues with my bluetooth capability. SPecifically the same things that Leopard has. Has anyone found a way to fix this? I have tried uninstalling the software and reinstalling it. I have tried rolling back windows to a previous setting. The best that I have been able to do is to either Reinstall windows from the hidden drive and start back to normal or use an external Bluetooth Dongel. IF I use the dongel, then I cannot use any of the special features associated with the Mouse.

Any help telling me where to go or whta to do would be great. I reinstalled windows several weeks ago and everything was fine until the last couple of days when things started acting weird again.

The average user can fix it when Bluetooth devices are not working. Firstly, check that the devices are on and has new batteries in it. There are little tips and tricks that make the device proprietary between one manufacturer and another. One headset may have 2 power switches. One button inside the battery case and one for use of the headset. Check the details. Click start and then control panel. There will be an option for hardware and sound and next click the option for Bluetooth devices. You should be able to select the device from the list and then click remove. Add it back. Click add and select "my device is set up and ready to be found" check box, then Next..Once you have found the device, select it and then click next and the install wizard will guide you through the rest.

I have the same problem with my JAbra Halo headset, Win7 64.

The only way to get it to connect is to re-pair the device. After the first pairing it connects, but after that it won't connect anymore. I actually exchanged my Halo thinking it was it's fault, but today I got my replacement unit and the same thing happens.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers countless times.  And, this happened at my previous Win 7 32 bit OS as well.

I must say, I am tired of the "solutions" such as "make sure the devices are turned on etc"  anyone smart enough to create a MS LIve username and find a forum and post a question, is WAY past that point.
