How to Troubleshoot Bluetooth devices!

I just bought a new laptop that supports Bluetooth and when try to connect my Bluetooth phone, mouse and headphones things just don’t work. I’m not making any progress. I’m having trouble getting these set up and working properly. Can someone point me to some general Bluetooth troubleshooting information that might help?

Basic troubleshooting usually starts the same as with any other type of hardware devices. Try the following:

·         Make sure that the devices are supported by your operating system and then

·         Go to the manufacturer’s web site and download the latest version of software or drivers for those devices. While you’re there you might browse the site to see if there are known issues or other information for your device.

·         Make sure the Bluetooth device is listed in the Bluetooth Devices Browser in the Control Panel (keep in mind that some Bluetooth devices may install a custom dialog window for their device in the control panel).

·         Make sure that you’re system is up to date on any service packs and other updates for your operating system

    I can't get my microsoft bluetooth 5000 mouse to connect to windows 7 either. It was working but I did a windows update and it hasn't worked since. It shows up in the devices window but doesn't do anything. I'v e tried reconnecting it but it never shows up. ANybody find a fix?

    I've got mine working now, I dowloaded and used the windows vista drivers (I am using 64 bit) I then downloaded the lates Microsoft Intellitype, this did not work until I deleted the Bluetooth Drivers then reinstalled after installing Intellitype. By the way intellitype did not show my mouse (bluetooth notebook 5000) so I picked wireless bluetooth 5000. this showed a different picure in the intellitype screen, but when going through the bluetooth menus the correct picture showed.

    SO to summerize install Intellitype Latest version from microsoft, then delete the bluetooth from ad reaove programs then re -install bluetooth. ( have not checked wheter installig Windows 7 drivers will work in a similar manner. the mouse nowworks instantly on startup before it showed up as a recognised and connected device but would not work.

    I've downloaded the latest 64bit W7 driver for my Mobile Memory Mouse 8000. Install went fine. Under Device and Printer it shows the device is installed. No where is there a Bluetooth ICON.

    I can switch the mouse to 2.4GHZ and it works, but switching to BT it does not.

    Where under the CP in W7 is the Bluetooth ICON so I can set to Allow it to connect?

    Have a Touchsmart tx2-1360 and it came with W7 64bit installed. Tried your suggestion with the VISTA driver but its not compatable.
