How to Troubleshoot Bluetooth devices!

I just bought a new laptop that supports Bluetooth and when try to connect my Bluetooth phone, mouse and headphones things just don’t work. I’m not making any progress. I’m having trouble getting these set up and working properly. Can someone point me to some general Bluetooth troubleshooting information that might help?

Basic troubleshooting usually starts the same as with any other type of hardware devices. Try the following:

·         Make sure that the devices are supported by your operating system and then

·         Go to the manufacturer’s web site and download the latest version of software or drivers for those devices. While you’re there you might browse the site to see if there are known issues or other information for your device.

·         Make sure the Bluetooth device is listed in the Bluetooth Devices Browser in the Control Panel (keep in mind that some Bluetooth devices may install a custom dialog window for their device in the control panel).

·         Make sure that you’re system is up to date on any service packs and other updates for your operating system

    I have uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers many times. I made sure all the services were running as did Dell support when they logged into my computer. They replaced the BT card and still nothing. I bet if I reinstalled Windows 7 it would work, but I am not going thru all that just for BT.  If the 1st service pack doesn't fix it, then I won't have BT.

    I don't know if this will help but when I bought my 1640 it had Vista x64 on it. I had to do a clean install and follow the installation of the drivers as listed on the Dell site to make everything work correctly.

    It was pain but the end results worked. After the driver loading and so forth I imaged it to have a starting point in the future.

    I am running Win7 x64 Ultimate.
