How to Troubleshoot Bluetooth devices!

I just bought a new laptop that supports Bluetooth and when try to connect my Bluetooth phone, mouse and headphones things just don’t work. I’m not making any progress. I’m having trouble getting these set up and working properly. Can someone point me to some general Bluetooth troubleshooting information that might help?

Basic troubleshooting usually starts the same as with any other type of hardware devices. Try the following:

·         Make sure that the devices are supported by your operating system and then

·         Go to the manufacturer’s web site and download the latest version of software or drivers for those devices. While you’re there you might browse the site to see if there are known issues or other information for your device.

·         Make sure the Bluetooth device is listed in the Bluetooth Devices Browser in the Control Panel (keep in mind that some Bluetooth devices may install a custom dialog window for their device in the control panel).

·         Make sure that you’re system is up to date on any service packs and other updates for your operating system

    I have the same problem with my JAbra Halo headset, Win7 64.

     

    The only way to get it to connect is to re-pair the device. After the first pairing it connects, but after that it won't connect anymore. I actually exchanged my Halo thinking it was it's fault, but today I got my replacement unit and the same thing happens.

     

    I have uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers countless times.  And, this happened at my previous Win 7 32 bit OS as well.

     

    I must say, I am tired of the "solutions" such as "make sure the devices are turned on etc"  anyone smart enough to create a MS LIve username and find a forum and post a question, is WAY past that point.

    I think every discussion needs to be accompanied by the stack that is used, and the drivers that are used. Assuming you are using the microsoft stack and the csr headset drivers, I experience exactly the same problem, but only on the stereo a2dp profile. They suck. I might depend on the firmware 4.4839 lmp version. It's in rom. I know the toshiba stack works fine on an it.

    What worse, nobody supports this stuff. Microsoft refers to the device/headset manufacturers. CSR refers to their customers. Headset makers refer to the dongle/radio makers. The dongle makers ship one of many stacks.

    In the end, nobody is supporting the csr drivers for the microsoft stack.
