How to Troubleshoot Bluetooth devices!

I'm having a similar problem with a Microsoft Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000.  I set the mouse to 'discoverable', Windows finds the mouse, lists it in the find new hardware screen, I click it, it installs, the icon appears in my hardware list for ~10 seconds and then disappears. The mouse never actually works. It never gives an error message, it just spontaneously forgets the mouse immediately after installation. I have installed the Bluetooth hardware drivers from the laptop manufacturer, and Microsoft does not have specialized drivers for this mouse (it just uses the standard Bluetooth HID mouse drivers) 

I happen to know the mouse works and the Bluetooth hardware on this Laptop works mainly because this in a MacBook Pro and the mouse works fine in Mac OS X (of course). Lol, so my Microsoft mouse doesn't work with Microsoft Windows 7 but it does work with Mac OS X, ain't that a kick in the head.

The reply by Bobby Mikkelson did not solve my problem. Windows 7 finds it OK but it wont keep it connected.

Also, this problem is new (for me) for Windows 7, I used Windows XP previously on this machine and the mouse worked fine.

I recently purchased an ASUS N61J Series with WIndows 7. I have been having some major issues with my bluetooth capability. SPecifically the same things that Leopard has. Has anyone found a way to fix this? I have tried uninstalling the software and reinstalling it. I have tried rolling back windows to a previous setting. The best that I have been able to do is to either Reinstall windows from the hidden drive and start back to normal or use an external Bluetooth Dongel. IF I use the dongel, then I cannot use any of the special features associated with the Mouse.

Any help telling me where to go or whta to do would be great. I reinstalled windows several weeks ago and everything was fine until the last couple of days when things started acting weird again.

Ive got the MS Wireless Entertainment Keyboard 8000 withWireless Laser Mouse 8000

Running Vista on a Fujitsu PC, mouse was a bit erratic, so I used a usb mouse. I upgraded to Windows 7 - the mouse was then PERFECT. After a couple of updates from MS, the mouse is now erratic again. As far as I know I'm up to date with all required updates and drivers.

I have a couple of questions:

1. in Devices screen, Ive got TWO keyboards listed - 'Microsoft Wireless Entertainment Keyboard 8000' and just plain 'Wireless Entertainment Keyboard 8000' - should I have that?
2. there are 4 mice listed in teh Device Manager - 2 wireless and 2 HID compliant - should i delete the extras and if so.... how can i tell which is which?
3. in the HID section there are 2xbluetooth; 14xHID compliant consumer control device, 2 x HID compliant device and 2 x xUSB input device - all for one KB and one mouse...?
4. my keyboard is listed as HID Keyboard device in device manager (one usb one bluetooth.)

anyone at MS got any insight into the poor mouse performance? its like its low on power or miles from the bluetooth transciever. It isnt on both cases.

I have had the same problem and found that the hot sync gets stuck at date book.  Once stuck you have to reboot to access the com. I was able to get the hot sync to work partially stopping each time at date book. I pretty much gave up as I know my HP BT500 works fine and I have installed and reinstalled according to blogs the latest Palm Desktop. Windows 7 is a problem. This worked fine on my Vista laptop.

To ensure your computer had install the driver. And had you active the bluetooth function?
