Suddenly all my desktop icons have green check marks on them.  What does it mean?  How do I fix them?

Hi,

Do you use norton 360? Norton -> Settings -> Backup Settings -> Backup Status Overlays -> OFF -> Apply.  After you run your next backup (you can do it manually) the check marks will disappear.

Hope this helps.

I just noticed the same issue today. I am running windows 10 do not use any backup programs and my antivirus is AVG. Refreshing my desktop makes them go away and I have notice the occasionally change to grey x's for a few seconds then go back to green ticks. The ticks themselves applier as a green circle with a white tick in the middle and I white border around the outside of the circle.

    Same here.

Look at the response above from Hranek (I may spelled his name wrong) his fix resolved the issue completely. It took 30 seconds and no side effects. JB

Same here - because I just started seeing them today out of nowhere - noticed a couple switched between the green checkmark and the transparent X as well.

    Windows 8.1 x86 - McAfee, no Norton.
