Green check marks on desktop icons

Suddenly all my desktop icons have green check marks on them.  What does it mean?  How do I fix them?

Hi,

Do you use norton 360? Norton -> Settings -> Backup Settings -> Backup Status Overlays -> OFF -> Apply.  After you run your next backup (you can do it manually) the check marks will disappear.

    I found that this problem related to OneDrive.  The green tick seems to denote items that are synchronized across computers.  I made the green ticks disappear by right clicking the white OneDrive icon on my taskbar, selecting Settings, going to the Auto-save tab, and then telling OneDrive to save Desktop to "This PC Only".  That removed all icons with green ticks.  Changing the setting back to "OneDrive" reinstates them.

    HI FRUITLESSNOODLE,

    THAT IS ALSO GOOD INFORMATION AS WELL.  IN MY CASE IT WAS MY NORTON SOFTWARE THAT WAS PERFORMING BACK-UPS, ETC, AND DISPLAYED THE GREEN CHECK MARKS DENOTING THAT "ALL IS WELL".  HOWEVER, WITH NORTON THERE IS A SETTING THAT CAN BE DEACTIVATED SO THAT IT WILL NOT DISPLAY THOSE CHECK MARKS.  ONE DRIVE IS ESSENTIALLY DOING THE SAME THING BECAUSE IT TOO IS MAKING A BACK-UP OF YOUR HARD-DRIVE.

    I have it as well but I don't have norton also its only on shortcuts for me. I'm fine with them, I just want to know if it's a new feature within windows gui or if it is something non related to the windows os and is a third party program that caused it.
