Suddenly all my desktop icons have green check marks on them. What does it mean? How do I fix them?

Hi,
Do you use norton 360? Norton -> Settings -> Backup Settings -> Backup Status Overlays -> OFF -> Apply. After you run your next backup (you can do it manually) the check marks will disappear.

I probably made the mistake of re-booting computer to see if the green checks would go away and they did not. Then I saw where it says to refresh the screen. This did not work after re-booting the system. Any other suggestion now as to how to get rid of the green checks?
All you have to do is right click on the desk top somewhere on nothing, and left click on refresh in the new window
I tried this, but only after I had re-booted the computer thinking that might solve the problem. Clicking refresh did not solve the problem. I do not have Norton; I have AVG instead for anti-virus. Do you have any other suggestions? Thank you for your help.
I have windows 10, and web root security, the green check marks happened twice to me. I just did it by accident, I just right click on the desk top, and left click on refresh took them right away!!!!
