Green check marks on desktop icons

Suddenly all my desktop icons have green check marks on them.  What does it mean?  How do I fix them?

Hi,

Do you use norton 360? Norton -> Settings -> Backup Settings -> Backup Status Overlays -> OFF -> Apply.  After you run your next backup (you can do it manually) the check marks will disappear.

    The green tick indicates file/folder sharing. In my case, it was with Microsoft's OneDrive service (but it may be other software that provides a similar service).

    If you are not worried about sharing to OneDrive, or similar software, removing the green tick is easy........

    1. Right-click on OneDrive icon in task bar and select 'Settings'
    2. Click on 'Account' tab
    3. Uncheck 'Start OneDrive with windows' box
    4. Click on 'Unlink this PC' - this will remove the account associated with the OneDrive service

    Go back to your Desktop/folders and the green ticks will have gone :)

    Process should be similar for other software that backs up to a virtual server - you will just need to look through the settings to find the right check boxes/links.

    Easier solution.  Move your mousepointer to an empty area on the desktop, right click and choose refresh.  They disappear!

    Two things: 

    a) I do NOT have any Norton products on my PC

    b) Mine appeared during a grueling 10 hour data transfer, moving the auto back up files off my auxillary drive and onto my server.  I think one of two things happened - 1) The computer just got overwhelmed with doing too many things at once and/or 2) It checked programs off as the back ups were moved.   I am more inclined to thing that the 1TB move of data and me using the machine concurrently just overloaded stuff. 

    In any event, it's an easy fix!

    I am having the green checkmark problem, and i went to a blank area in my windows 10 and it didn't work.

    but i still have the green checks on the icons when i refreshed the page i dont have norton installed though i dont have one drive ither. 

    WHAT TYPE OF BACKUP SOFTWARE DO YOU HAVE?  IN MY CASE, THE CHECK MARK ONLY INDICATED THAT "NO THREATS" WERE FOUND.
