Suddenly all my desktop icons have green check marks on them. What does it mean? How do I fix them?

Hi,
Do you use norton 360? Norton -> Settings -> Backup Settings -> Backup Status Overlays -> OFF -> Apply. After you run your next backup (you can do it manually) the check marks will disappear.

I tried the refresh gambit. The big green check marks turned into small blue arrows.
I also would like to know the root of the problem to as i dont use Norton but a desktop refresh did fix it but they showed up like outta nowhere so thats my concern. like I came home for lunch today and they were not there but after work boom they were there so it happened in a matter of hours
To all folks on this thread. The broader concern is why did the icons change in the first place and how? If anyone has the answer please let us know. Is this a result of a recent Google update/action.
That did it for me. It just had me freaked out, as I hadn't installed anything that should have created the checks. I guess it's just a Windows 10 anomaly.
