Green check marks on desktop icons

Suddenly all my desktop icons have green check marks on them.  What does it mean?  How do I fix them?

Hi,

Do you use norton 360? Norton -> Settings -> Backup Settings -> Backup Status Overlays -> OFF -> Apply.  After you run your next backup (you can do it manually) the check marks will disappear.

    Clearly that is not the answer because I do NOT use Norton. They will reappear. Also, One Drive is not the answer either because I do NOT use it either..

    For those of us, who use Windows, in my case I use Windows 10, and have Norton.  I contacted Norton, and was told what to do, and it "WORKED"!!!!  THEY ALSO STATED THAT THIS OCCURRED DURING THE TIME THAT THEY WERE DOING A BACK-UP, AND THE GREEN CHECK MARKS INDICATED THAT MY APPLICATIONS ON MY DESKTOP WERE BACKED UP.  MAYBE, YOU SHOULD CHECK WITH YOUR VIRUS/SECURITY SOFTWARE COMPANY.  ALL I HAD TO DO WAS TO "UNCHECK" A SETTING IN NORTON.

    WHAT OS AND SECURITY SOFTWARE ARE YOU USING?

    I had this issue, and the issue was caused by my Norton's Security software.  I had to do the following in my Norton's software:  Go to Settings -> Backup Settings -> Backup Status Overlays -> OFF -> Apply

    I uninstalled Microsoft one drive which solved my problem with the green arrows then they re-appeared, I just can't get rid of them.
