Suddenly all my desktop icons have green check marks on them.  What does it mean?  How do I fix them?

Hi,

Do you use norton 360? Norton -> Settings -> Backup Settings -> Backup Status Overlays -> OFF -> Apply.  After you run your next backup (you can do it manually) the check marks will disappear.

Hope this helps.

Perhaps in your case but... NO... There are many more CORRECT reasons in this thread.

I CONTACTED NORTONS, BECAUSE THEIR SOFTWARE PLACED THE CHECK MARKS ON MY  DESKTOP SOFTWARE, WHICH MEANT THE BACKUP WAS SUCCESSFUL.  ALSO, NORTON'S HAS A WAY THAT YOU CAN DISABLE BACKUP NOTIFICATION.  NO ISSUES FOR ME.

Yes... In your case it worked. But it can also be caused by OneDrive as well as many backup programs.

    See:

    https://www.tenforums.com/general-support/108526-onedrive-green-checkmarks-icon-overlays-disappeared.html

for how to remove them when they are caused by OneDrive.

Kudos to you and your SHOUTING! I guess you made your point, even if it is on the tip of your head.

YOU NEED TO CONTACT MICROSOFT DEFENDER. I HAVE NOT SEND THE CHECK MARKS IN TWO YEARS!  SINCE NORTON TOLD ME HOW TO CHANGE MY SETTINGS.
