Green check marks on desktop icons

Suddenly all my desktop icons have green check marks on them.  What does it mean?  How do I fix them?

Suddenly all my desktop icons have green check marks on them.  What does it mean?  How do I fix them?

Hi,

Do you use norton 360? Norton -> Settings -> Backup Settings -> Backup Status Overlays -> OFF -> Apply.  After you run your next backup (you can do it manually) the check marks will disappear.

    From your answer, "the checkmarks go away after a backup"

    therefore, the checkmarks mean that you need to run a backup for those files.

    Strange to use green check marks to indicate that backup has not been run.

    Perhaps in your case but... NO... There are many more CORRECT reasons in this thread.
