Suddenly all my desktop icons have green check marks on them.  What does it mean?  How do I fix them?

Hi,

Do you use norton 360? Norton -> Settings -> Backup Settings -> Backup Status Overlays -> OFF -> Apply.  After you run your next backup (you can do it manually) the check marks will disappear.

Hope this helps.

I use google chrome and when the check marks appear, I hit F5 button a few clicks (3), they disappear a couple of seconds along with icons, then suddenly reappear with no checkmarks.

thanks for the easy solution.  but I don't think I saw the cause in any of the follow up posts.  I started my computer this morning, and there were all the green check marks. which, using your right click, refesh made them all go away.  but why were they their in the first place?

Except that I have not installed anything that should be messing with my desktop or shortcuts. And the checks are ONLY on shortcuts. This strikes me very much as something the OS would have to be doing.
