Desktop Icon Font Color - How do I change the font color of the text that describes desktop icons?

Windows 7 - Makes things easier!!!! Phfff..... I remember being able to do this in Windows XP. I can't in Windows 7.

In previous versions of Windows, it did not matter what color you picked for the Desktop fonts, some would always be rendered invisible because of the background color of a desktop wallpaper. The user was constantly moving icons around the desktop to a different colored area where the font could be read. This was the source of a large number of complaints from users asking for a font that was always visible, regardless of the color that was behind the font.

The white/shadowed font solves this problem.

I just got new computer and so with it Windows 7 and have been trying all day to change the white shadow font on the desktop under the icons. I finally see from these answers you CAN'T. This is a terrible decision by Microsoft. We are smart enough to know that light wallpaper needs dark front and the color we pick is our choice and should not be mandated by Microsoft.    The default white font with the shadow is not good.  Please consider  updating the software to change  this option back to the way it was in Windows XP. Give us back ALL of our personalization options for those of us that like to personalize our computer a specific way.  Having items "locked" is annoying.  Thank you for consideration.

I am very disappointed to hear that this cannot be changed.  I am in the unfortunate position of having visual issues and work for a company that has a solid white background on the corporate desktop as part of our branding.  I can read solid black on white, but the white with shadowng does not offer me the contrast I need to read the icons.  I've played with the icon size.

I don't need to use the other enhancements that are offered as this is the only place in the system I am having issues with so far on my new corporate laptop.

It seems to me that Microsoft has taken a large step backwards in making the system useful for those of us with mile visual impairments.

I agree , apart from the visual impairment option , if I pay for something I will choose the colours (note the correct spelling as well)  that I want.

This whole thread just sums up Microsofts attitude to it's customers perfectly ,

So what is the point to in having the option to remove the dropshadow on icon text if it leaves the text unreadable?

I too hate the dropshadow, so I dug deep in the settings to turn it off, now I can't see my icon labels because I have been forbidden to change the icon font color.  I am forced to either use the dropshadow or change my desktop wallpaper (which, btw, reads "I wish I were a mac")
