I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit. How do I change the font color that describes the desktop icons?

You cannot change the Desktop font color.

Because Desktop wallpaper images have varying colors, it is easy for the font colors to be unreadable if they are on top of the same color as a wallpaper image. For instance a black font on top of a dark part of the background image or a white font on a white part of a background image.

The Desktop icon fonts are dynamic and will show white on dark backgrounds and change to white with a black shadow effect on a light background.

It was never a problem in Windows XP, why should it suddenly be a problem now? Still wish Windows XP was the software of choice. Windows 7 is just to much of a hassle. Sorry, my opinion

We have documented this behavior before and unfortunately, the font will probably revert back to the default behavior.

Hi

I already described the reasons for this decision.

If you use a solid background, and you still want to use a theme, you can always select the Windows 7 Basic or Windows Classic theme. The problem with themes, such as Aero, is that they all include pre-defined settings.

If none of this helps, there are always third party solutions that offer just about any option you wish to use.

There is still a bug in that the icon font changes when the system is rebooted. The theme

remains set (Aero type) but the font becomes an unshaded black, just what I want.

P.S. Please don't fix this bug!

The choice of icon font characteristics should be a matter of choice. It would be fine

if the system allowed one to select 'automagic' as a choice, too.

As a matter of personal choice I eschew busy backgrounds and choose a solid color

(a shade of blue as it happens). I like the look of a solid black font for the icons on

this backgound. When the system boots up, the icon fonts are black and unshaded.

However, if I make any changes at all to the theme, the font changes to that gawdawful,

bloated white shaded monstrosity, and I cannot get it to change back without performing

a reboot. No amount of theme selection, background color selection, or font choosing

will get rid of the shading.

Why can't the Advanced Appearance Settings dialog allow changing the font color and

shading if the user wishes?
