Need to Reinstall Windows Installer in Windows 7

Does Microsoft have a tool that will remove this annoying pop-up once and for all?

More information is needed if we are to determine how to deal with your problem. Please upload and share with everyone copies of your System and Application logs from your Event Viewer to your OneDrive and post a link here.

To access the System log select Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer, from the list in the left side of the window expand Windows Logs and select System. Place the cursor on System, select Action from the Menu and Save All Events as (the default evtx file type) and give the file a name. Do the same for the Applications log. Do not provide filtered files. Do not clear logs whilst you have a continuing problem.

It sure was a coincidence then, although I agree with your statement that it could have been "lurking". Just before I got the dreaded Windows Installer pop-up for the umpteenth time I noticed that several of my programs were running really slow, like Outlook lagging behind on typing an email. 

This whole disaster was about trying to get the Windows Installer virus removed and, after all this grief, I still have it. Does Microsoft have a tool that will remove this annoying pop-up once and for all?

Most likely whatever site or link you used to update your Chrome Video Player included

the malware. Or it was already there just waiting for a chance to install itself.

Next thing I knew about sixteen malicious programs downloaded and took over my computer. It hijacked my browser, my email, my Facebook, pretty well everything. It took me four hours to remove all the malicious programs. Some even had to nerve to ask me for a captcha before they would remove. Even after removing all of these programs I was still left with two files that would not remove. When I rebooted these files started installing everything all over again. Also I have Microsoft Security Essentials running and it didn't catch a thing. On my last reboot my computer froze after Starting Windows and my screen was blank. I had no choice but to run a restore, which thankfully, I hope, worked. I've had a couple of attacks over the years but this one wins the prize for most malicious.
