I also have a problem with "Spooler" and I am also getting the Error 1053.

I have a Dell laptop bought in February 2010.  It is preloaded with Windows 7 Home Premium, (obviously Dell's OEM).

When I first got it up and running, with great deal of help from Epson, I managed to get it working Wifi with a SX600FW All-in-One.  It already worked OK with USB.

I was and am not a regular user of our printer, my wife has more use with her own laptop. 

One day the printer developed a head fault and had to be taken away for repair.  To tide my wife over, she got use of a HP Officejet 7310 All-in-One (non-Wifi capable).  Initially, if I wanted anything printing, I just sent it as an attachment to her laptop via a quick email to save me having to carry my computer over, disconnect, connect, disconnect and reconnect the USB.

It was during this time that I noticed I was getting warning messages on my screen at start-up telling me that my computer could not find the Epson software that was still in situ on my machine.  I dismissed the messages, because the printer was off for repair and I could not do anything about it anyways.  I decided it could be dealt with when I got the Epson printer back.  The messages were coming everytime I switched on and becoming a nuisance, so I uninstalled the Epson software.  I note that in my Start Menu, there are still references to the Epson Printer however and they won't go away even after a using a registry cleaner.

Our Epson was still away for repair and on one particular day I needed to print something urgently.  My wife had taken her laptop away on business so I could not use the method already described.  So I decided to take my laptop over to the printer and plug the USB in and that is when the real problems seemed to start.

"Plug and Play" did not work.  My computer could not "see" the printer.  It wanted me to install the drivers.  I tried installing the drivers from the supplied CDROM but it failed.  Firstly I got an Error 1813 and then when I tried to restart the Spooler, I got the Error 1053.

I then tried to download the latest driver software from the HP website, (Windows 7 version).  I saved the file to a folder and then attempted the installation again.  I got exactly the same thing.

I am what you would term a "base level user".  I struggle with the terminology and jargon that you guys tend to use so freely amongst yourselves.  So can you hold my hand and show me how I can get everything running normally again?

I say and admit I am base level, but I am willing and yearn to learn.  I want to know what has caused this problem and how to fix it and if possible prevent it happening again, although I tend to believe that because this has happened without me knowingly touching the wrong thing, that is a very strong possibility!  Hence me wanting to know and understand the solution if there is one.

I hope you can help me - I am tearing what's left of my hair out!

Thanks a lot!!! I managed to uninstall thinprint by following the steps, only some folders were a bit different. And immediately the printers appeared again and I just added my printer again :-D Great! Thanks a lot for helping me with this problem!!!  Finally, it works! :D Enjoying windows 7 now!!!
