I am trying to install a printer on windows 7 but the print spooler wont start so i can't install
I have accessed the services.msc menu and tried to manually restart the spooler it is at this point that it i get the error msg:
Error 1053 Did not respond in timely manner etc . I have tried a computer restart but to no avail.
What should I do as i have no printing capacity but i do have scanning??

Can you run the system file checker to check for system file corruption - follow Option 1 in the folliwng link:

A system restore will not work in this situation as the printer never worked.

I am running into exact same issue on windows 7. However, when i run Option 1 in CMD prompt, I get this error --

I have a brand new, Clean install of Windws 7 Pro. My printer is an HP Deskjet 6940 and I have been getting the 1053 error. The printer could be seen for a very brief time but it had a yellow error triangle attached to the icon. I tried to repair the files but the install disk wont let me. I have also tried to download the drivers from the HP website and was told, by the website, that my drivers are included in Windows 7. Now I cant get it to work......I am unsure how to post the info needed, could someone give me detailed instructions on how to do that. Thanks

This is how I fixed mine. This has done my head in all afternoon - so simple. I have tried a million and one things, all suggested by microsoft and various forums. All you have to do in uncheck the box that says 'allow service to interact with desktop' -this is under the 'log on' tab in the spooler bit of services.msc. Sorry I not explaiing it well but this youtube video does :)
