Windows 7 - Live Photo Gallery Screen Saver - file name option, freezing the pic, and won't sleep

I just upgraded from Windows XP. There's a few features that I miss and I'm not sure if there's anyway to get them.

  1. In XP, you could have the file name appear in the corner of the picture when the screensaver was running. Really helpful for finding pics that you want to send or ID'ing the picture. Any way of getting this feature in Win7?
  2. The <arrow down> key would freeze the current picture. In Win7, it now wakes up the computer. Anyway to freeze the pics in screensaver mode?
  3. Not sure how much this is related to the screensaver, but the monitor and the computer are both set to go to sleep after 1 hour. Neither happens. Even a day or two later it's still running.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Here's the solution.  Copy ssmypics.scr from your old XP machine to the Window 7 machine c:windows:system32 directory.  then the old screensaver is available in settings.  worked for me!

    Hi KurtSS,

    When you stated item #1, are you using Windows Live Photo Gallery screensaver? I may have missed it but I can't seem to reproduce this by using XP and WLPG screensaver.

    For item #2, if your computer is in sleep mode and you pressed the down arrow (or any key even move the mouse), the computer usually wakes up. Can you please provide us more details to your issue?

    For item #3, you may want to create another thread in the Windows 7 forums to check the settings on your machine.

    Hmm, so it sounds like the issue is the WLPG screensaver doesn't offer the same feature set as the screen saver that it replaced, My Pictures Slideshow. Any way to install the My Pictures screensaver in Win7? Any other options for me? I assume there probably are some other programs out there with the features I desire. ??
