I just upgraded from Windows XP. There's a few features that I miss and I'm not sure if there's anyway to get them. In XP, you could have the file name appear in the corner of the picture when the screensaver was running. Really helpful for finding pics that you want to send or ID'ing the picture. Any way of getting this feature in Win7? The <arrow down> key would freeze the current picture. In Win7, it now wakes up the computer. Anyway to freeze the pics in screensaver mode? Not sure how much this is related to the screensaver, but the monitor and the computer are both set to go to sleep after 1 hour. Neither happens. Even a day or two later it's still running. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

I think that this is a great fix ....only i do not have my old XP computer to copy ssmypics.scr MS should provide a fix to provide the file name when using the photo gallery in Win7. How could they delete such a useful function?! I have followed the link to http://www.onlinecomputertips.com/windows/ssmypics.scr but that just opens a web page full of code. Does anyone know if that page should then be saved as ssmypics.scr and then copied to the relevant win32 folder?

gPhotoShow That is the answer for me. Free (not a trial software, but completely free) it shows the path, can navigate back and forwards and can pause on an image if you want... and it randomises properly. they have a pro version that does more, but all I want is covered by the free version. Well, if it's any consolation, the moment I see one pic from folder A then another from folder B, I'm completely content that they are being displayed randomly with full designer intent. The order in which the screensaver selects what pic to display next randomly is by design and is what it is. Yeah, I have a PHOTOS folder with sub folders and some of the sub folders have many folders within them, for example folders called 2011 will have many subfolders. I found the screen saver was JUST showing images randomly from the first of my big subfolders and from nowhere else in the giant PHOTOS folder. Dang! If I find out anything I will report back. Here's the solution. Copy ssmypics.scr from your old XP machine to the Window 7 machine c:windows:system32 directory. then the old screensaver is available in settings. worked for me!
