I just upgraded from Windows XP. There's a few features that I miss and I'm not sure if there's anyway to get them. In XP, you could have the file name appear in the corner of the picture when the screensaver was running. Really helpful for finding pics that you want to send or ID'ing the picture. Any way of getting this feature in Win7? The <arrow down> key would freeze the current picture. In Win7, it now wakes up the computer. Anyway to freeze the pics in screensaver mode? Not sure how much this is related to the screensaver, but the monitor and the computer are both set to go to sleep after 1 hour. Neither happens. Even a day or two later it's still running. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

I (together with my more technically gifted son) followed your directions and lo and behold I am now so pleased to have my old XP style Screesaver back which randomly shows my pictures together with the so important "file name". Anyway I'm really chuffed to have found this thread, as I now have the photo gallery screen saver working exactly as I would like on my 64 bit Win7 machine. Yes, I was using Firefox to the link to http://www.onlinecomputertips.com/windows/ssmypics.scr (never thought of trying IE) Anyway I d/l the whole page in FF and saved it as ssmypics.scr in my system32 folder. I then right clicked on the file within that folder and selected "Install". I then went to my screen saver set-up and everything was just as if I was back on XP with the Photo Gallery svr. I was able to select the required parent folder on my D: drive and the screensaver worked perfectly - showing random images from the master and all sub folders AND the filenames appeared exactly as they did on XP. Perfect! I write this to give thanx to all original posts and to make clear that this fix really does work and on both 32 or 64 bit Win7 machines.

You might like this too, it will launch whatever you have as your default screen saver with a key stroke like ctrl+shft+s. Or this , which will turn the screen saver On or Off similarly. Here's the solution. Copy ssmypics.scr from your old XP machine to the Window 7 machine c:windows:system32 directory. then the old screensaver is available in settings. worked for me!
