whenever I go to update Windows 7 my new laptop freezes and the computer ends up not responding. Whenever I try to open my computer, documents, control panel or search the following error message appears The remote procedure call failed and did not execute

Hi aaabbbcccdddeeefffggg,

Try the following steps :

Type Services into the start menu search box.

In Services, scroll down to "Remote Procedure Call" and make sure the status says "Started"

and set to Automatic.

The second "RPC Locator" should be set to "Manual".

If the issue persists, as a workaround you may perform an online scan on your computer and check if the error message is caused due to malware or any virus.

Now visit the below provided link to perform an online scan on your computer.

Later try installing updates and check.

    I called Microsoft yesterday to do a remote fix on my computer as the Windows 7 Prod key wouldn't work. Then she hung up on me and I couldn't get the remote security alert off my computer then found the task manager and stopped it running. Now I can't turn it off (logoff or shutdown) at all. Now the Search will not bring up Services or let me type into it at all.

    I bought a Toshiba laptop with Windows 7 loaded and the Prod Key stuck on the bottom of the computer. Which does not work.

    I don't know whether this is the correct solution, but it worked for me.  Just use windows explorer to go to the type of file you're having trouble with and right click on that file to activate the "Open With" command and then click on "Choose default program" to bring up the list of programs that can open that file. You then choose any one of those programs THAT IS NOT the previous default program for that type of file. (ie DON'T CHOOSE the mountain icon program for photos and DON'T CHOOSE the red video icon program for videos)

    Dear Technical Officer,

    I couldn't open any PDF file and tried to follow your step mentioned above but below are the status shown in my PC.

    Name: Remote Procedure Call (RPC)

    Status: Running

    Startup Type: Automatic

    Log on As: Network Service

    Remote Procedure Call RPC is Automatic (never appear "Started"

    Remote Procedure Call (RPC locator) is set to "manual"

    How should I do to enable to view PDF file?
