whenever I go to update Windows 7 my new laptop freezes and the computer ends up not responding. Whenever I try to open my computer, documents, control panel or search the following error message appears The remote procedure call failed and did not execute

Hi aaabbbcccdddeeefffggg,

Try the following steps :

Type Services into the start menu search box.

In Services, scroll down to "Remote Procedure Call" and make sure the status says "Started"

and set to Automatic.

The second "RPC Locator" should be set to "Manual".

If the issue persists, as a workaround you may perform an online scan on your computer and check if the error message is caused due to malware or any virus.

Now visit the below provided link to perform an online scan on your computer.

Later try installing updates and check.

    I did (the System File Checker scan) and it seems to be okay after the reboot...

    I wasn't able to access any of my document folders or drives, couldn't even open "My Computer" or the control panel without getting the error "The remote procedure call failed and did not execute".

    Although it seems to be okay now, I would still like more information on why this happened...this particular issue has never happened with any of my other OSs, so is it just a Windows 7 thing?
