The remote procedure call failed and did not execute

You said you didn't know how to start 'Remote Procedure Call', if it says 'running', then there is no need to start it, therefore the problem lies elsewhere. If it doesn't say Running, then move over to the left hand side of the 'Services' window (where the descriptions are) and click 'Start', underlined in blue.

Now, since RCP is already running, it would seem that Windows 10 is the cause of the problem. As it's a fairly new OS, there will still be some bugs and errors occurring as constant improvements and updates are being made with it in order for the OS to run with full compatibility. My advice would be for you to downgrade back to your favourable OS, IF you really don't need/want Windows 10; and if you can still downgrade (There was a time limit).

You also said that you have multiple drives, and that you keep getting an error message saying 'this device is currently in use' or ('another similar device still seems to be running'), which usually occurs with software, as supposed to the hardware error message. I have had the same problem too, but with my memory stick. What I usually do is when the error message occurs and it doesn't let me eject it, I just click 'Continue' (not cancel or Try Again). The reason I personally get this error messages is because I always seem to try and safely eject the memory stick just as the memory stick has finished receiving (or transferring) all the data requested. Now with hard drives, I cannot say anything about that as I haven't experienced the exact problem, hence why I've shared a similar problem with USB sticks and personal solutions.

I'm not very technical (with the exception of music production software XD) so if you do find any of this useful, then that's great.

I agree...  things were better before W10 upgrade.  works for a while then quits - undependable OS here.  need to find online repair utility not a system reset please

When I went to services to fix the problem, I rebooted my laptop and found that I was able to access my files again, however, my internet access and USB ports were disabled. I had to go to the bios and re enable them. I absolutely hate windows 10 and I'm glad I downgraded back to windows 8 XD

I cannot properly downgrade to W7  but I can upgrade to Linux - very tempting if the WINE emulator in the most up to date distributions can run my top Windows-based applications.  The ONLY reason why I stick with Windows is for the current insufficiency in Linux - hopefully Microsoft will smarten up or lose me and everyone else I can drag with me for ever.   I have never in my long experience with Windows or Linux systems ever had to reinstall a complete OS to repair minor problems.  I pity those poor souls that are at the mercy of unscrupulous repair shops when something goes wrong.   To Microsoft:  get off your butts and fix it right the first time - you are only justifying the hatred for Microsoft products when you pass off this shoddy W10 junk as a good progression in computer technology.

No problem. I personally find Win8 the most stable and perfect version ever. Even the design doesn't bother me anymore.
