whenever I go to update Windows 7 my new laptop freezes and the computer ends up not responding. Whenever I try to open my computer, documents, control panel or search the following error message appears The remote procedure call failed and did not execute

Hi aaabbbcccdddeeefffggg,

Try the following steps :

Type Services into the start menu search box.

In Services, scroll down to "Remote Procedure Call" and make sure the status says "Started"

and set to Automatic.

The second "RPC Locator" should be set to "Manual".

If the issue persists, as a workaround you may perform an online scan on your computer and check if the error message is caused due to malware or any virus.

Now visit the below provided link to perform an online scan on your computer.

Later try installing updates and check.

    Are we Microsoft customers supposed to have ESP as to know this information?

    When we are badgered by Microsoft to upgrade to Windows 10, Microsoft:

    • Does not volunteer all the problems we will face upon upgrading
    • Will not volunteer solutions to the problems that it inflicts upon us paying customers
    • Can only publish problem related software code for its flagship Windows 10 upgrade process necessitating such cryptic  resolution requirements as:

    Go to service  >> open service

    find sql Service(sqlexpress)

    Property >> Log on with Local machine>>

    Set Manually startup type

    And press start button

    I wonder if Sataya would allow Toyota to sell him a car such that when the car goes wonky Toyota does not overtly reach out to him to fix Toyota's problem, blames Ford and Chevy and other 3rd parties for the problem, ignores the problem and then tell Sataya that he has to crack the hood, and spend 3 hours stabbing in the dark using a cryptic resolution AND Toyota says "keep paying us money"

    I'm getting this too, but I get it after I put the logon password in.   First it takes hours to get to the logon screen.  The laptop stays on a black screen w/ only a working cursor for hours.    Then when the logon screen shows up I type the password adn I get either this message or  "The RPC server is unavailable".      It's a friend's computer I'm working on, she shares it w/ her bf, my guess it's loaded w/  porn.    that's the ONLY reason I fix computers when there's a male that has access to it.... smh.

    I had a very similar issue occur when I upgraded to 2016 MS Office 365.

    My tiles/icons would not show up but I did not get the error: "remote procedure call failed"

    It took 2 highly skilled Microsoft Tier 2 technical support engineers 4 hours to fix all the foul ups Microsoft caused on my machine.

    They blamed it on a corrupted file.

    So, you may be facing a clean install of Windows 8.

    For what it is worth, I think Windows 10 is FINALLY ready for prime time.  Perhaps it would be worth upgrading.  Plus, Microsoft announced yesterday that security updates will no longer be provided after...........January 24 I believe.
