Hi aaabbbcccdddeeefffggg,

Try the following steps :

Type Services into the start menu search box.

In Services, scroll down to "Remote Procedure Call" and make sure the status says "Started"

and set to Automatic.

The second "RPC Locator" should be set to "Manual".

If the issue persists, as a workaround you may perform an online scan on your computer and check if the error message is caused due to malware or any virus.

Now visit the below provided link to perform an online scan on your computer.

Later try installing updates and check.

    Hasn't solved my problem.

Was uninstalling a mSN game Mortimer Beckett & the Crimson Thief and the unistallatiom process froze.

    The above solution hasn;t worked.

(Everytime I type services in the Start Menu Search box everything in the panel  freezes up.

I then have to unfreeze it by right clicking Start, Propertirs and  and customize Start Menu then Use Default Settings and Apply.

Have used scan (Microsoft Security Essentials) Still no joy.

Virus and Windows updated today so it's not that!
