Error message "Revocation information for the security certificate for this site is not available. Do you want to proceed? [Yes] [No] [View certificate]

For some time I have been receiving the dialog box containing "Security Alert 'Revocation information for the security certificate for this site is not available. Do you want to proceed? [Yes] [No] [View certificate]' ." I know that many, if not all, of the sites are OK as I have used them multiple times in the past.

I have tried various "fixes" found by Googling "revocation information" and nothing fixes the problem--what ever it is.

When I try to do various updates, not related to this problem, I am not allow to download the updates because of a security problem.

Any suggestions for a computer challenged user? Thanks.

    I don't know if this is of any help but I get this maddening message (sometimes several times) on sites I know to be OK when using the Hide IP program, which offers US and UK IP addresses to get round geographical restrictions (such as on BBC broadcasts). The messages can be turned off by going into Internet Options/Advanced then scrolling to Security and unchecking "Check for server certificate revocation" then restarting the computer.

    It's probably unwise to do this on anything but a short-term basis, if indeed at all. Better would be to use a second browser that bypasses the proxy while you're listening to a sports broadcast or whatever with Internet Explorer and the Hide IP software.

    I can't help thinking that if IE didn't nag so much, people would be less likely to look for ways to turn off security warnings. It's a case of the boy who cried wolf, isn't it!

    I know this is an old thread but i just had this problem but managed to fix it myself, to anyone else who is having this problem, the issue is that the website or applications date and time is different to your computers date and time, meaning you will have to set your computer to the correct time.

    Edit: may have been hard to understand, basically you may have set your computers clock forward or back too far and now the websites certificate is invalid.
