Jenna I checked the box to activate the hover under make mouse settigns easier and the reverse seems to be true.
No more links automatically opening.
In Windows 7, whenever I hover over things, the mouse automatically selects items or follows links without me clicking.

I installed Windows 7 Premium Home Edition on my laptop. I am having problems with the mouse constantly selecting items that I don't want it to select. I would like to get it back to the way it has worked in every other version of WIndows where I have to click on something to select.
Do you know how annoying it is to be typing something on a webpage & suddenly your redirected to another page because your mouse hovered over a link???? Or in WIndows Explorer when I'm looking at pictures & the mouse hovers over a folder & moves it to another folder all WITHOUT me clicking & selecting it!!

Found the solution. I guess this was introduced in Vista, so people moving over to Win 7 from XP didn't know about it. To FIX, go to:
Mouse Properties > Device Settings (Tab) > Settings (button) > Tapping (menu item) > then uncheck "Enable Tapping"
Done. Fixed. Annoyance gone.

my husband found the drivers from vista(which are utterly amazing) i had to go to the laptop manufacturer web site for the drivers that are specifically for the laptop mine is an acer . so check your computer site for drivers

2012-02-26T03:08:08+00:00 None of these solutions are working for me...anybody have anything else? I have a touchpad (no actual mouse) and it's hyper-sensitive to tapping. I'm okay if the pointer hovers, but if I happen to touch that touchpad in any way...boom...I've suddenly clicked on three million things in two seconds. Like others, it's driving me absolutely insane. It's almost impossible to do any typing...

And it was fun just changing the settings when it was way to sensitive,
Go to your control panel, click on mouse,
On the top right you should see device settings click on this,
Then click on the next setting button,
This should reveal the options for your touchpad which sensitivity will be listed.
