Jenna I checked the box to activate the hover under make mouse settigns easier and the reverse seems to be true.
No more links automatically opening.
In Windows 7, whenever I hover over things, the mouse automatically selects items or follows links without me clicking.

I installed Windows 7 Premium Home Edition on my laptop. I am having problems with the mouse constantly selecting items that I don't want it to select. I would like to get it back to the way it has worked in every other version of WIndows where I have to click on something to select.
Do you know how annoying it is to be typing something on a webpage & suddenly your redirected to another page because your mouse hovered over a link???? Or in WIndows Explorer when I'm looking at pictures & the mouse hovers over a folder & moves it to another folder all WITHOUT me clicking & selecting it!!

Found the solution. I guess this was introduced in Vista, so people moving over to Win 7 from XP didn't know about it. To FIX, go to:
Mouse Properties > Device Settings (Tab) > Settings (button) > Tapping (menu item) > then uncheck "Enable Tapping"
Done. Fixed. Annoyance gone.

my husband found the drivers from vista(which are utterly amazing) i had to go to the laptop manufacturer web site for the drivers that are specifically for the laptop mine is an acer . so check your computer site for drivers

It resembles thread posted onFriday, July 09, 2010 3:48 PM by DPNORTHSIDE entitled "CURSOR JUMPING ISSUES EXTREMELY ANNOYING " which very closely mimics the problems i've been having. A resolution to either just might be the one I'm looking f..or as well...may want to check that thread out as well..good luck from someone equally frustrated. And just to prove my point - see the word "f..or" above? I was in the process of adding ".." elsewhere but they got added within the word "for" because that's where my cursor happened to be hovering........!!!!! I give up !!

2010-06-18T00:43:05+00:00 Open a Windows Explorer folder, near the top left hand corner there is the word "Organize" followed by an downward pointing arrow. Click on the arrow, Choose "Folder and search options". A new box will open up with 3 tabs at the top, it should default to the "General" tab, if not click it. Then in the middle of the box is the option to choose how your mouse will behave when you single or double click. Choose the 3rd "radio button" that says "Double click to open an item (single click to select).
That's it. It worked for me when none of the other options presented here did. I think people largely misunderstood the orgin of the problems as all of the solusitons presented here would work for the type of mouse behavior IF the orgin of the behvior was different.
Wow, that's a lot possble correct solutions. The joy and curse of being able to do the same thing many ways in a Windows environment.
