I am receiving duplicate emails in my windows mail inbox. How can I stop this?

My Windows Mail emails arrive in twos.....each email is delivered two times. Any suggestions as to how to stop this?

Only speculations :

  1. You have 2 identical e-mail accounts. Open Windows Mail > Tools > Accounts. See 2 identical accounts ?
  2. Your anti-virus program has an e-mail scanning action which causes havoc. It is wise to disable that scanning option.

Tools | Accounts | Mail Section. Any chance you have the same account listed twice?

    I recently encountered this duplicate message downloading as a SINGLE EVENT, when Verizon.net recently changed servers, and sent instructions for "migration" over to their latest set-up.  Current messages are NOT duplicating, however, absolutely EVERYTHING previous to my migration, is now duplicated in my inbox!   Arrrrgggghhhh....

    Is there any quick way to either scan &/or delete JUST THE EXISTING DUPLICATES in my desktop inbox folder at this time?

    Manually, onesy-twosy doing it, is a royal PIA (I had like 6k total stored messages ...now 12k with EVERYTHING previous to last month "duplicate" as a result - remember current emails are NOT duplicating) - and it just is well... plain annoying (and space wasting) is all.

    TIA for any suggestions or directions to (even an aftermarket/plug-in scanning/de-duper) tool.

    Thanks I am going to try this, and also I think I just downloaded Firefox again & that seemed to be when it started. But always before that, when I shut down for the night, a window always asks if I want to close 2 tabs. Is that the virus scanner?

               

    This thread is about Windows Live Mail, an e-mail client, not a mail service you access via a browser. Please start your own new thread in the forum for the e-mail program you use.

    Do these three things checking as you go,

     

    Remove the account, reboot and then add the account back.

     

    Try compacting and repairing the database.

    Turn off e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that eats up CPUs, slows down sending and receiving, and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs, account setting changes and has even been responsible for loss of messages.     The most efficient way to do this is to completely remove the anti-virus program and then do a custom installation. When the opportunity to opt out of e-mail scanning arises, opt out.
