boot manager installed windows 7 twice how to delete one?

you need to edit the boot.ini file

You need to open up the boot.ini file  C:\boot.ini

Heres how

click on start then click on run in the box type c:\boot.ini then press enter

before you proceedany further i urge you to back up the originial boot.ini  you can do this making a copy of the the boot file

A notepad file opens and you will see boot loaders Delete manually that the entyr/s you do not require dont want And and then save the file ......

a typical single boot.ini reference will look similar to this

[boot loader]

timeout=30

default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS

[operating systems]

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

 the bold letter indicates the partition number.

If you want to delete the option for some other drive:

for d:\

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" 

for e:\

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(3)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" 

for f:\

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(4)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" 

You must be careful that you must not delete the option pointing to the working O/S.

HI I have the same problem except instead of getting ride of XP I need to get 7 off my boot sector. I went in like you mentioned above and copied the info and this is what I got:

The easiest way to remove an entry in the Windows 7 Boot Configuration is to use msconfig. 

To launch msconfig:

1.  Click Start

2.  In the Search text box, type msconfig

3.  Launch msconfig by selecting it from the search results above the search text box.

After msconfig is launched:

1.  Go to the Boot tab

2.  Select the boot entry you want to delete.

3.  Click the Delete button and then click OK.

Make sure to be logged in to the Windows 7 partition you want to keep when performing these steps so you don't delete the good installation by mistake.

I have the same problem, except I have a copy of XP instead 7 in the boot configuration. I tried putting 7 on my machine but found it would not work and removed it off the partition but I still get the message for both on the boot manager. I need to remove the 7 code, but not exactly sure where it starts and ends, so the XP will still work.

I was asking how you reverse this process, and put back a HD already loaded with Windows 7 BACK ON the boot log?
