I have an icon in the lower right tray that says Intel RST Service is not running. What does this mean, do I need to fix it and how do I fix it?

That service is described here: http://www.intel.com/products/desktop/chipsets/Q57/Q57-overview.htm about halfway down the page. It's not essential, but the most likely fix if you do have additional drives is to reload the sata driver from Intel most appropriate to your chipset.

I have it on automatic but I'm still seeing the icon that Intel RST service is not running

I m using Windows 8 and I went to the Task Manager and it says that my Intel RTS service IS running but my little sidebar notification still says this ""intel RTS service is not running". What can i do about that?
I have similar setup ASROCK Z77 Fatality, I5-3570k, Windows 8 Pro. I have had many issues with Intel RST drivers. I'm using an SSD cache on my C: drive and a RAID 10 on my 4ea 3tb drives.
It's very wonky. I'll have failure of the RST applet to open on startup, I've had failure to shut down properly. Also have had HDD drop from RAID after a forced shutdown (stuck at system is shutting down) and it will need to rebuild and verify. Sometimes I just cancel the verify because it literally takes days to rebuild with bad disk performance during the process. Just a note, if you firmware update your BIOS you could potentially lose your RAID data, which has happened to me. Basically, unless you have alot of time on your hands and don't care about your data, go for this software RAID solution, otherwise save yourself a headache and buy a large SSD and and external backup drive (same benefits as RAID or better in every respect), for a home power user anyways, I doubt many of you on this post are serving databases to medium and large businesses.
i have the same problem but when i go to task mgr and try to start rst it stops right away this is a new build with AS Rock Z77 mobo i5-3570k processor windows 7 home premium made sure bios right.
