Intel Rapid Storage Technology Service is not running

I have an icon in the lower right tray that says Intel RST Service is not running.  What does this mean, do I need to fix it and how do I fix it?

Hi,

That service is described here: http://www.intel.com/products/desktop/chipsets/Q57/Q57-overview.htm about halfway down the page. It's not essential, but the most likely fix if you do have additional drives is to reload the sata driver from Intel most appropriate to your chipset.

    I am having the same trouble as bj castle more than a year ago. My RST has shown this notice since I got it in March but it hasn't been a problem to me.   Unfortunately the Chipset Identification Utility isn't  available for Win 7 64 bit.

    I have recently started having a problem with the CPU being stuck at 100% with a program IAStordatamgrsvc which I think (but don't really know) is something to do with RST not working.  

    Can anyone advise on what to do about this or should I post on another thread, if the 2 issues are not related?

    Thank you so much, after receiving the same notification as other people in my system tray and having spoken to the most unhelpful tech support person ever i despaired of being able to fix this.

    Being windows 7 x64 and intel having no drivers i thought i was screwed!

    Your task manager tip worked for me after i used the adminstrators list of services i was able to start it running again

    It is not actually a problem. The service for IRTS is configured for a delayed auto start.
