Intel Rapid Storage Technology Service is not running

I have an icon in the lower right tray that says Intel RST Service is not running.  What does this mean, do I need to fix it and how do I fix it?

Hi,

That service is described here: http://www.intel.com/products/desktop/chipsets/Q57/Q57-overview.htm about halfway down the page. It's not essential, but the most likely fix if you do have additional drives is to reload the sata driver from Intel most appropriate to your chipset.

    This will apply to some of you and not others. If you see the Intel RST Service is not running message after you boot your rig, but then it starts up later it is because in Windows 7 the default is "Automatic (Delayed Start)" for the service. From your Administrative Tools open Services, find the "Intel(R) Rapid Storage Technology" service and change it to just Automatic. It will be running immediately upon start-up.

    Now I need help with my Intel Rapid Storage Technology. My Vista computer loads it in the systray and shows the green checkmark and my system is functioning normally. On my recently built Windows 7 computer the Intel Rapid Storage technology in the systray says Intel RST Service is not running. I open it and get the User Account Control permission screen first. I say ok and then Rapid Storage Technology runs and I get the green check mark. Why doesn't it load during boot up as it does with my Vista Computer? Why do I have to open the RST application first to make it run? Just an inconvenience, but it works with my Vista computer without having to open the application first. Please help.

    Hi,

    Until Intel supports that chipset in Win7 x64 there will not be a solution. It's up to the manufacturer to produce drivers to support their hardware.
