Intel Rapid Storage Technology Service is not running

I have an icon in the lower right tray that says Intel RST Service is not running.  What does this mean, do I need to fix it and how do I fix it?

Hi,

That service is described here: http://www.intel.com/products/desktop/chipsets/Q57/Q57-overview.htm about halfway down the page. It's not essential, but the most likely fix if you do have additional drives is to reload the sata driver from Intel most appropriate to your chipset.

    I have had the same problem  for 6 months, and my window 7 home premium x64 has performed just fine. but, I am not hip to computer workings (not like this), but I can get around. but tonight, I went to control panel, highlited itel rst and went to click repair, and hit uninstall. I could not react fast enough to stop this, and now, mr. I can fix it is left swimming in his own stupidly. is there any hope of repair? thank you for your time and efforts!

    I received the message and rebooted, also was getting pop-up's from Verizon/Outlook re my userid/password (for some strange reason)...

    After the reboot I looked at Services and didn't find anything, starting with Intel... or RST...

    so I clicked on the Services button (with the shield) and found it, it stated Started (under status) and Automatic (Delayed Start) under Startup Type.
