Red X on system tray connection icon even though I am connected to the Internet. OS is Win 7 64 bit, how do I correct this.

All you actually had to do and I know this is a late late reply but its just in the case of letting you know how easy it really was to fix this issue what you should have done was turn the internet system icon off and back on that's what fixed this issue for me....

Try this. It worked for me.

I finally removed the security from my network and the network status now shows me as connected. The red X is gone. It seems that Windows 7 does not support WPA2-PSK. I cannot imagine that is the case. Any ideas as to why, as installed on my PC, it does not have an option for WPA2-PSK? As I said, the hardware is supported and previously worked with XP.

    Using Windows 7 Ultimate (x64) with SP1, and after creating an Incomming Connection to connect from work through VPN, the red X in tre tray icon problem appeared.

    I accidentally fixed this by disabling IPv6 on all interfaces in the registry, while trying to fix something else.

    Just unchecking Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) in the Local Area Network Properties doesn't do the trick, I had to use the registry part. I used the value "ffffffff" for DisabledComponents, restarted*,* and the correct icon came back in the tray.

    I don't have a need for IPv6, so for me, at least for now, it's safe. If experiencing problems with this, just undo the change by deleting the value DisabledComponents and revert to the default. Read the article in the link for details.

    hey i got windows 7 professional 64bit, and i got the red x on my wireless icon, on my desktop com. my wireless card is a ralink rt61 turbo, i have tried ever thing i could think of to get the red x off but i cant. can u plz help me bec i cant even update my computer.
