Red X in system tray connection icon...have reset router, restarted computer...how to correct this problem

All you actually had to do and I know this is a late late reply but its just in the case of letting you know how easy it really was to fix this issue what you should have done was turn the internet system icon off and back on that's what fixed this issue for me....
Try this. It worked for me.
I finally removed the security from my network and the network status now shows me as connected. The red X is gone. It seems that Windows 7 does not support WPA2-PSK. I cannot imagine that is the case. Any ideas as to why, as installed on my PC, it does not have an option for WPA2-PSK? As I said, the hardware is supported and previously worked with XP.
I've got the same problem. Very frustrating.
I just did a fresh install of Windows 7 Home Premium on a desktop that previously ran XP. I of course had to re-install the driver for my Netgear WG311v2 wireless adapter. I them updated the driver via an ethernet connection. I added my home wireless network. When I go in to manage my wireless settings, I see my network and others in the area. Mine has a red X next to it (the others do not). My home network runs off an Apple Time Capsule and I use WPA2-PSK/AES security. When I set up the connection on W7, it only gives me an option for WPA/TKIP. The weird thing is if I refresh the network list, the red x temporarily is replaced by green bars, but then it goes back to the X. Nevertheless, it does connect (I unpugged the ethernet cord to confirm I was wireless). Despite the fact it connects, the red X remains and I get the message in my subject line, namely that the connection settings do not match the network. I have deleted and reconfigured the network settings. I also re-installed W7 in case it was a corrupted file. Finally, with XP the this never happened, so I believe the Netgear card supports WPA-PSK. Please Help!
I have the same issue for Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit: Although it says I'm connected, connection does not work and there's a red X. Both wired and wireless connections don't work.
It's not a router problem (just updated to the last firmware and it works fine).
It's not an Internet Explorer problem (in other browers it does not work either).
I have reinstalled wireless driver.
