Red X on system tray connection icon even though I am connected to the Internet. OS is Win 7 64 bit, how do I correct this.

All you actually had to do and I know this is a late late reply but its just in the case of letting you know how easy it really was to fix this issue what you should have done was turn the internet system icon off and back on that's what fixed this issue for me....

Try this. It worked for me.

I finally removed the security from my network and the network status now shows me as connected. The red X is gone. It seems that Windows 7 does not support WPA2-PSK. I cannot imagine that is the case. Any ideas as to why, as installed on my PC, it does not have an option for WPA2-PSK? As I said, the hardware is supported and previously worked with XP.

    hi everybody, try this it worked for me

    i had the red x it either came up as no signal and a red x or no device and a red x, but my internet worked fine which was wireless but the problem is like yours, theirs a red x. so this is what i did. went to network and sharing centre in control panel then on the left hand side it would say change adapter settings, if you can see either local area connection (for wired connection) or wireless network connection ( for wireless connections) i do not know what your problem is but if it isn't their read on, go to device manager by clicking start, right click computer then properties then on the left side it would say device manager click that. then go to your network device and right click, uninstall device, then click yes at the dialog box. next it will disappear, click at the top action, then scan for hardware changes, it will begin to reinstall your device and then in then notifications your network icon will have a star click it and then choose your network router, it will connect and it will go back to normal.
