Windows could not start Error 1068: The dependency or group failed to start the WLAN Auto Config serviceon the local computer.

I am not able to start certain services to get wireless connected.  In Device Manager the adapter shows working properly.  The WLAN light is on.  Start Windows Wirless Service bar comes on but the service just wont start.  I have run chkdsk and several other aftermarket registry cleaners but I keep comming up empty.  PLEASE HELP.

I have been sarching for hours and hours...and this is already after hours of working offline with the client in their house..no system restore or any backups...typical noob...but not their fault this happened.. I did EVERYTHING suggested. NOTHING worked...Nearly gave up, and prepared for a re-install...then I found this at the last second....

 "OMG 911techmedics..... You are insanely GENIUS!!!!!!

Finally something works and doesn't require a complete OS re-installation. I was so afraid of that since Asus doesn't backup a physical copy of the Recovery manager in the hard drive, and somehow my Backup discs (6 discs, waste of my DVD :O) don't work at all after spending an hour burning them.

What happened was I used RegTweaker to do a registry cleanup on my Win7, my computer did work faster but I lost my WLan service, and no matter what I did nothing worked, until I tripped over your post! I've read over 50 websites/forum pages, and tried everything possibly suggested and none of them worked.

 I have tried:

  1. Microsoft Winsock32 Fix
  2. Replacing Winsock dll
  3. Netsh wlan with set yes command
  4. Netsh reset catalog command
  5. LSP Fix.exe
  6. Right click "Manage" on Computer and enabling everything linked to WLAN + dependencies to "Automatic"

I spent 8 hours and none of the above worked. Apparently loads of people have the same issue after using a Registry cleaner. It's tried, tested and proven. I have done registry cleanup on 2 computers and next thing I know on restart is that WLAN Service went AWOL. My first suspicion went to a missing or corrupted Winsock, but I never thought a simple change to 2 files in the register would solve the problem. Your chunk of text was scary to look at at the beginning but I was so desperate I was willing to try anything and it really paid off. Microsoft should pay you man! Their stupid suggestions don't work. For those like me, I'll break down the instructions for you:

Step 1: Click START button

Step 2: In the Search area, type "regedt32" (of course don't include the ""), right click on the search result and "Run as Administrator".

Step 3: Click on "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE", should expand out to a list of stuff

Step 4: Next choose "SYSTEM", should expand again

Step 5: Choose "CurrentControlSet", expands again

Step 6: Choose "Services", expands to a super large list of stuff

Step 7: Click on "Dhcp", the right window will show the files in that folder

Step 8: Double click on "DependOnService"

Step 9: Delete all the words in text area, except "Afd", and click OK. You are done here

Step 10: Next under "Services", look for "EapHost", this should be a few folders below Dhcp Step 11: Same thing, double click on the file "DependOnService"

Step 12: Delete everything in the text are and click OK. You are done.

Now, close everything and RESTART WINDOWS. Your WLan should be back and working once your computer starts. Hope this saves you like it saved me. Thanks to original poster for the wonderful resolution. Your post was almost too obscure to find, but I'm glad this is SOLVED! I'll be spreading the word around to save people from the constant agony of WLAN SVC going balistic every time after a registry cleanup."

Now then...as I was about to wipe the blooming machine anyway, I thought 'what the ****', and just did the 12 steps without even a reg. backup.... AND IT FREAKING WORKED!!!!!

    You may try this:

For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs.     1. Click start->Type in regedit in the search bar and hit enter.
    2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / SYSTEM / CurrentControlSet / Services / Ndisuio
    3. On the right panel, see the "Start" entry. If that is set to 4, change it to 3.
    4. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / SYSTEM / CurrentControlSet002 / Services / Ndisuio
    5. Again, if the "Start" **entry is set to 4, change it to 3.**5. Close Registry Editor.
    6. Reboot computer
    7. Then check if you are able to start those services.

    I have tried making these changes as suggested in Windows 7 (64bit) OS and I still get the "Error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start."

    I have confirmed that Extinsible Authentication Protocol is Started (as are the subsets of this service: CNG Key Isolation and its' subsets, Remote Procedure Call (RPC) [its' subsets: DCOM Server Process Launcher and RPC Endpoint Mapper] and Remote Procedure Call (RPC) [its' subsets: DCOM Server Process Launcher and RPC Endpoint Mapper])

    I have confirmed that Remote Procedure Call (RPC) is Started (as are the subsets of this service: DCOM Server Process Launcher and RPC Endpoint Mapper).

    I go to services.msc and find that Wired AutoConfig is set to Automatic and is Started.

    However, WLAN AutoConfig is set to Automatic but not Started (Status is blank). I attempt to start it and get "Error 1068: the dependency service or group failed to start."

    In HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / SYSTEM / CurrentControlSet / Services / Ndisuio - Start value is 3.

    In HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / SYSTEM / ControlSet002 / Services / Ndisuio - Start value is 3.

    I noticed there is also a ControlSet001 and Ndisuio - Start value is also 3.

    I have rebooted after confirming these settings and attempted to start WLAN AutoConfig and continue to get the same error.

    I assume that the start value for ndisuio is related to the dependency NDIS Username I/O Protocol, which is not a service in services.msc but a registry setting. As such, the other dependency, "Native WiFi Filter" must also be a registry setting. I found this and these are the current settings in the registry:

    NAME:                                  TYPE:                          DATA:

    Display Name                        REG_SZ                      NativeWiFi Filter

    So, as far as I can understand, all settings are correct and as they should be. Any other suggestions as to why I am still getting the same error after confirming that all configuration settings are as they should be?

    Hi! I think I have the same problem.

    My wireless stopped working, I'm with Windows 7 x64.

    1. I go to services, try to start WLAN AutoConfig but Error 1068 appear - "Windows could not start the WLAN AutoConfig service on Local Computer. Error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start."
    2. I read some forums and went to regedit.exe>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SYSTEM>CurrentControlSet>services>Ndisuio 

    and my "Start" value is 3, not 4, it should me OK but it's not.

    1. I've also run "sfc/scannow" from cmd, and no errors.

    Nothing helps... 

    Please if someone has ant clue how to fix this help me!
