Lose Internet Connection After Sleep Mode/Standby/Hibernate

I recently purchased a new HP Pavilion Elite e9105z CTO Desktop and migrated from Win XP to Vista Home Premium x64, with a NVIDIA nForce 10/100 Mbps Ethernet Controller.  Whenever I come out of sleep- or standby-mode, I lose my Internet connection and have to either reboot my system or run the Windows Network Diagnostics to repair the network adapter settings.

I have tried several remedies available from the Internet; but unfortunately, nothing has resulted in a permanent solution.  I contacted my ISP provider (Mediacom) to ask if there was/is an issue with the firmware used to support my SBV5220 cable modem (e.g., non-compatibility with Vista) and they said there isn't.  To date, I've:

  1. Reinstalled network card driver.
  2. Checked and reset power options with USB CDC.
  3. Applied update for Windows Vista (Default Gateway Setting is Lost ) for x64-based Systems (KB933872)--received response that update does not apply to system.
  4. Reset IP configuration via Cmd line.
  5. Under the Power Management tab, unchecked the box that turns off the adapter when power saving kicks in.

I access the computer several times a day and having to reset Internet connections has become extremely aggravating.  I hope there is a solution.  Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Returning from a 3-week vacation, during which my desktop was off, my local internet connection would no longer come active when it came out of hibernation.  The wireless functioned, but the local connection would not work unless I physically unplugged the cable from the router (Netgear) and reinserted it.

After several days of frustration I went into Device Manager, unchecked the  ethernet adapter option "allow the computer to turn off this device".

This seems to have cleared up the problem, at least so far...

Savan H - I appreciate your post in an effort to help.  But as I said in my initial post, I tried installing the fix from KB933872 and received a response that it was not applicable to my system.  I really don't know where to go from here.

    Hello RobertK51,

We have not heard back from you in some time.  Are you still having trouble with your network connections when resuming from Sleep/Hibernation?  If this issue has not been resolved please post back and let us know so we can try and assist you further.  If it has been resolved could you post back and let us know what steps you took to fix the problem.  This would be helpful to others with similar issues.

If you could also let us know your Service Pack Level (SP1 or SP2) in your response this would be helpful.

Looking forward to hearing back from you.

    Thanks,

    Jack

    Hello,

I am having the same issues as Robert. I have Vista 64-bit Home Premium Service Pack 2 on a Sony VAIO computer. I have read over this document and tried the fix listed. I too, when trying to load KB933872 get the message that it is not applicable to my system.

Do you have any other fixes for this problem. It is very frustrating everytime I go to get on my PC I have to play around to get a connection.

    Thanks,

    Jim

Perhaps it would help if you disclosed your versions of the modules mentioned in that patch too? Note that the ones I gave were for my VistaSP2(x86). Judging by both the 6000 instead of the 6002 and the smaller version number than the KB article mentioned my guess would be that the hotfix was regressed by VistaSP2 and will have to be repackaged at least if not also reworked. Unfortunately since it doesn't involve a security incident I suspect the likelihood of that occurring will depend on somebody raising it as a paid support incident.
