Lose Internet Connection After Sleep Mode/Standby/Hibernate

I have Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit OS and that's what this fix is for. However, I updated to SP2 and the article doesn't say anything about that. After a check was made of my system, to determine that I was eligible for the Microsoft download, I clicked the download button and a box popped up, after a couple/few seconds saying "the update does not apply to your system." Don't know why?!

See my comments earlier?  Even if the three modules in your service pack do have the implied higher version there is no real guarantee that this fix would be integrated in them.  Then the fix would be regressed but it would be regressed in a version of the product which would not be compatible with the patched modules.  Then a new version of the hotfix would have to be created (or at best someone with access to the source would have to check if the update's version check could be overridden).  Or your problem may just be the same symptom produced by a different cause, in which case the original hotfix would already be integrated in the new version but just not enough to fix your problem too.  Etc.  Which case was which would be easier to guess if the module actually contained an eyecatcher with the hotfix identifier.   FWIW it doesn't seem to.

I found what claims be a solution to the lost internet connection following sleep mode, but for some reason it didn't work for me. I'm going to pass it on, though, because it sounds great and might help someone else. I have been experiencing similar issues with my Sony VAIO laptop. My problem was a bit different, and perhaps less severe, as I was only losing "upload" after Sleep Mode. It started about a week ago, and I ended up doing a "reset of LAN adapter" as a temp fix every time. I also tried almost evrything, to no avail. It seems the problem is somewhere in Power Management.

What (strangely) has appeared to work for me, was going into Device Manager, pulling up LAN adapter, and going into Properties, then Power Management, and checking "Allow the computer to turn this device off to save power". What was strange was that after the first time doing this, I cam out of Sleep Mode with no connectivity issues. However, the 2nd time, I lost ALL connectivity (both LAN and wireless!). I had to reboot my modem and router, shut down and reboot of course. Everything came back thankfully.

However, I tried this again, and so far it seems to be working. Although now I have noticed some strange changes in my computer. For example, this morning the computer was in "VAIO Optimized" power config..??? I had to reset to High Performance, but this was very odd.

So, perhaps there is something here. I'm not sure what is causing the issue, perhaps a line surge did something I am unaware of at this point.

I am having the same issues as Robert. I have Vista 64-bit Home Premium Service Pack 2 on a Sony VAIO computer. I have read over this document and tried the fix listed. I too, when trying to load KB933872 get the message that it is not applicable to my system.

Do you have any other fixes for this problem. It is very frustrating everytime I go to get on my PC I have to play around to get a connection.

Perhaps it would help if you disclosed your versions of the modules mentioned in that patch too? Note that the ones I gave were for my VistaSP2(x86). Judging by both the 6000 instead of the 6002 and the smaller version number than the KB article mentioned my guess would be that the hotfix was regressed by VistaSP2 and will have to be repackaged at least if not also reworked. Unfortunately since it doesn't involve a security incident I suspect the likelihood of that occurring will depend on somebody raising it as a paid support incident.
