not able to boot with windows 7 os

To access the System Recovery Environment in Windows 7, simply boot your PC, just before the system loads the Windows operating system; hit the [F8] Function 8 key on your keyboard which will launch the Advanced Boot Options Menu. There you will see a new option 'Repair Your Computer', select this option and hit 'Enter' on your keyboard.

Interesting. Someone at another site posted with the same problem when helping a friend fix their Windows XP machine.
I suggest starting with checking that there are no CDs or DVDs in the drives or removable drives (backups) plugged in to the USB ports. If that is not the problem, see if this KB article helps: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315261/

tried all sorts of fixes suggested on internet, including F8 Repair many times, did not work

finally came across this on the net
Fixing NTLDR is missing in Windows 7 :
1.Insert the Microsoft Windows 7 installation DVD disc in the DVD drive, and then start the PC.
2.Press a key when you are prompted and Select language, time, keyboard or an input method, and then click Next.
3.Select Repair your computer
4.Select the operating system that you want to repair, and then click Next.
5. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click Command Prompt.
6.To Fix NTLDR is missing error in Command Prompt type this command and hit ENTER:
bootrec /FixBoot
Worked perfectly for me.

My wife just had her computer rebuild 2 weeks ago. Has been working fine. She got up this morning had the message NTLDR missing. Said to hit any hit which did not work. Try to do F8 3 or 4 dozen times with no luck. Hit F12 but can not find 'Quick Boot' in BIOS. Have any suggestions?
My computer does not have the advanced boot options when i press [F8], but when the manufacturers logo appears i repetidly tap [ESC] ad then [F11} to get system recovery
I had the same problem with my Windows 7. The solution is to go into the BIOS and change the boot order. It was originally set to boot from USB Device first, and I have an external hard drive connected by USB for backup, which does not have an operating system installed. When the boot order is changed so that "Hard Drive" is first, the problem goes away.
