To access the System Recovery Environment in Windows 7, simply boot your PC, just before the system loads the Windows operating system; hit the [F8] Function 8 key on your keyboard which will launch the Advanced Boot Options Menu. There you will see a new option 'Repair Your Computer', select this option and hit 'Enter' on your keyboard.

Interesting. Someone at another site posted with the same problem when helping a friend fix their Windows XP machine.
I suggest starting with checking that there are no CDs or DVDs in the drives or removable drives (backups) plugged in to the USB ports. If that is not the problem, see if this KB article helps: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315261/

Realize you might have a drive gone or going bad - though it could be cabling or the drive controller.
You may need to try several of the commands here from your Windows Disk - Command Prompt
/FixMbr or /FixBoot or /RebuildBcd may have to use each in turn or more than once.

Wow! That is the exact scenario I am currently in. I had to remove an old hard drive which failed that did not even have my windows 7 installed on it but had an old version of XP. So after removing the hard drive I kept getting the NTLDR missing error. Im am currently doing a system recovery with a windows 7 repair disk like you did in hopes it works! Thank you.

Don't know if this person has a dual boot PC ... but I do ... I finally, after using the repair function on the Win7 DVD managed to let me get back into windows7 ... but I'm still getting the NTLDR missing or corrupt error when I attempt to boot into XP.
