I get an error when I attempt to Create System Repair Disk in Windows 7 as follows:
Step 1: Press the Start button on your keyboard (the one that bears the Microsoft logo) or click the Start button from the bottom left hand corner of the screen.
Step 2: In the search box type in System Repair.
Step 3: Select Create a System Repair disk
Step 4: Take a blank DVD and put in the burning drive (DVD writer). You could also use a CD, just make sure it is large enough to store the System Repair Disc.
Step 5: Select the burning drive from the dropdown menu.
Step 6: Click Create disc.
A dialog appears immediately with the title "Create a system repair disc". It says
System repair disc could not be created
The parameter is incorrect. (0x8007057)
I verfied that the drivers on my Sony DVD RW drive are the most current, and I have no problems burning disks from other programs. I have tried using both CD-R and DVD-R media with the same result, but in fact the error appears so fast I don't think the drive is even accessed. There is nothing written to the event log.
Please help.

Also been caught by this error and could create a system image or system repair disk. Just as a last ditch effort I unmounted my encrypted partion (I use TrueCrypt to keep my company data safe) and so far it has bow at least allowed me to create a repair disk. I'm now going to try the backup without the encrypted drive mounted. I'll let you know if that succeeds. Not sure if the is the root cause of anyone else's issues but thought I'd post my findings...

CDixonM makes a great point. I don't know how many forums I've read in which someone, usually from MS, recommends a solution which requires a Windows 7 disk. Maybe MS would like to mail a disk to each of us who's bought a computer that came with Win7 pre-installed so we can actually use their solution.
I'm stuck with the same problem (error: System repair disc could not be created .... 0x80070057) whether I try to create the recovery disc from within Windows or from the command prompt.
And I thought of using Macrium Reflect to image the drive, but that didn't work either because Macrium won't image a dynamic drive. Since dynamic drives normally relate to RAID, I'm at a loss to explain why my HP computer's drive partitions are all dynamic, rather than basic.
I suppose one solution would be to chance converting the drive partitions to basic, hoping no data will be lost, and then giving Macrium another try. But that seems pretty drastic.
The basic problem seems to be that MS can't explain why creating the system repair disc doesn't work.
I've got this issue too. It happens on both of my laptops as well as 3 desktops. In other words I can't successfully use this utility on any Windows 7 system I own. WTF Microsoft???? How about providing us with a real fix instead of this half baked tech support? If I was a potential customer seeing these kind of issues it'd certainly make me think twice about purchasing your product.

You've got to be kidding me! Your OS Software is BROKEN and a CRITICAL function creating a recovery disk is not working for quite a lot of people (I'm sure there are maybe 1%-2% if that many, who actually come and complain here about any issue) and you can't even open a bug with the developers, duplicate the issue/problem and verify it like any normal standard "technical support" engineer should do? That's pretty basic SOP (Standard Operating Procedure for everyone in Rio Linda). Instead you suggest some things that do not even address the problem and which most of us probably already knew about or would have discovered eventually on our own.
I believe what everyone here would like to hear back from you is WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO SUBMIT A BUG REGARDING THIS ISSUE AND WHAT THE ETA FOR A FIX IS GOING TO BE?
Unfortunately, it is not like the old days in the 80's and 90's when everyone had to have disks to install the OS, apparently now 75% of PC Owners do not even know what an OS Disk is and never received one when they dropped down over 1k-5k on a computer that the manufacturer was too lazy or cheap to throw a $2 disk in with! It makes no sense unless Microsoft is charging so much that it stops everyone from paying your license fee (which I am 99% positive is the culprit, which then means you've not only caused the problem with buggy software, you then caused the problem of not being able to solve it by making sure 75% of all PC owners in America now have no way to re-install their OS or address the band-aids and barbed-wire and duct tape fixes you tried to point everyone to.
I hope you can get off...........and do your job properly and get us a solution in the form of a security patch! This should be a CRITICAL BUG, if I lose all my business data due to this I may just talk to our corporate attorney to see what our legal options for remedy are....this is an unacceptable response from MS in regards to a serious issue/bug!

- Since this issue seems to be related to corrupt system files, there's also a chance that running the System File Checker will resolve the issue. The following KB article gives information on how to use SFC:

I found a solution at

The neosmart website has Windows 7 and Vista sytem recovery disk downloads that worked for me.
1st download the uTorrent software and use it to download the Windows Vista or 7 ISO file.
2nd You'll need a disk burning software to build a disk from an ISO file. I used BurnAware.
3rd I placed the disk in my DVD drive and rebooted. Upon start-up the bios will hang for a short time asking if you want to boot from the CD DVD. Select this.
4th I was able to backup to a Blu-ray disk in Windows 7 Pro. I placed the backup Blu-Ray disk in the BD drive.
When repair asked for permission to rebuild I selected the BD disk drive as a source and the repair disk software found the backup file.
I was more than happy to donate for the system rebuild disk.
