I get an error when I attempt to Create System Repair Disk in Windows 7 as follows:

Step 1: Press the Start button on your keyboard (the one that bears the Microsoft logo) or click the Start button from the bottom left hand corner of the screen.

Step 2: In the search box type in System Repair.

Step 3: Select Create a System Repair disk

Step 4: Take a blank DVD and put in the burning drive (DVD writer). You could also use a CD, just make sure it is large enough to store the System Repair Disc.

Step 5: Select the burning drive from the dropdown menu.

Step 6: Click Create disc.

A dialog appears immediately with the title "Create a system repair disc". It says

System repair disc could not be created

The parameter is incorrect. (0x8007057)

I verfied that the drivers on my Sony DVD RW drive are the most current, and I have no problems burning disks from other programs. I have tried using both CD-R and DVD-R media with the same result, but in fact the error appears so fast I don't think the drive is even accessed. There is nothing written to the event log.

Please help.

Hi Folks,

Also been caught by this error and could create a system image or system repair disk. Just as a last ditch effort I unmounted my encrypted partion (I use TrueCrypt to keep my company data safe) and so far it has bow at least allowed me to create a repair disk. I'm now going to try the backup without the encrypted drive mounted. I'll let you know if that succeeds. Not sure if the is the root cause of anyone else's issues but thought I'd post my findings...

    Cody, you may be confusing "recovery disk" with "repair disk."

    The system manufacturer handles the "RECOVERY DISK SET."  The REPAIR DISK is a bootable system disk created by Windows, from the backup and restore control panel.  It is necessary in order to restore a system image that has been saved on an external drive.  The repair disk is an additional disk to the recovery set.

    Like many other people, the issue is that when I execute this app, I get the following error:

    "System repair disk could not be created.

    The parameter is incorrect. (0x80070057)"

    This bootable disk is needed in order to restore an image backup that I have created using Windows Backup and Restore, in Windows 7 Home Premium x64.

    I am getting this error also...on two different Toshiba A505 laptops.  Please inform me why this is a problem for Toshiba.  IT IS YOUR PROGRAM that is giving the error!

    I am terribly sorry for the confusion. Here are a few solutions to the Windows 7 Recovery Disk tool:

    • Debbie offers a solution to create a recovery disk using the Windows 7 disk on the following thread:

    • Klickster offers a solution that still requires a Windows 7 disk, but can repair the recovery disk tool that inside Windows:

    • Since this issue seems to be related to corrupt system files, there's also a chance that running the System File Checker will resolve the issue. The following KB article gives information on how to use SFC:

    This solution doesn't do a thing for the majority of us who do not have a Windows 7 disk.  It's not standard practice for the manufacturers to include a system disk anymore, and the "recovery disks" that I created, the ones intended to bring your PC back to its "factory state" won't do this repair either.  It's no wonder I see so many bootleg Windows 7 disks around--you have to have the disk when a problem arises, or else you have to re-format your hard drive!

    Fortunately, when this problem came up, I had already made an image of my C: disk with Macrium Reflect, so going back in time by about two weeks fixed the problem.

    It's kind of a drastic solution to have to format and re-image C: drive just to fix a small problem with Windows 7, don't you think?
