I get an error when I attempt to Create System Repair Disk in Windows 7 as follows:

Step 1: Press the Start button on your keyboard (the one that bears the Microsoft logo) or click the Start button from the bottom left hand corner of the screen.

Step 2: In the search box type in System Repair.

Step 3: Select Create a System Repair disk

Step 4: Take a blank DVD and put in the burning drive (DVD writer). You could also use a CD, just make sure it is large enough to store the System Repair Disc.

Step 5: Select the burning drive from the dropdown menu.

Step 6: Click Create disc.

A dialog appears immediately with the title "Create a system repair disc". It says

System repair disc could not be created

The parameter is incorrect. (0x8007057)

I verfied that the drivers on my Sony DVD RW drive are the most current, and I have no problems burning disks from other programs. I have tried using both CD-R and DVD-R media with the same result, but in fact the error appears so fast I don't think the drive is even accessed. There is nothing written to the event log.

Please help.

Hi Folks,

Also been caught by this error and could create a system image or system repair disk. Just as a last ditch effort I unmounted my encrypted partion (I use TrueCrypt to keep my company data safe) and so far it has bow at least allowed me to create a repair disk. I'm now going to try the backup without the encrypted drive mounted. I'll let you know if that succeeds. Not sure if the is the root cause of anyone else's issues but thought I'd post my findings...

    This worked for me.  I have two 2 Tb hard drives that are additional to a 256 SSD which is my drive C.  I have over 15 partitions between the 2 hard drives.  I did as BrandyLee suggested and placed my 2 hard drives "Offline" and was able to make a repair disk.

    This is indeed not a problem with Truecrypt. I do not have, nor ever heard of Truecrypt, don't have it on my computer and it's now January 29, 2016 and this is the first time I have ever received this error. I also, do not have a bunch of partitions on this computer.

    In trying to find an answer for the exact error as the title of this thread, this was the first on the search engine results.

    I have made a Windows system image backup 2-3 times the last few years and wanted to make an updated disc and the other times worked just fine. So, for me to get this error all of  sudden, does not make sense to me, nor do the replies on this thread.

    I suppose I will have to make my own post to get any attention and help, but I wanted to make it clear this is not the main reason for this problem. I am also using a different brand laptop than the brands you are talking about (i.e. Toshiba, Dell, HP); I have an iBuyPower laptop (MSI tweaked a little bit). I bought this in 2012 and it's been running strong thus far and I realized it's been 1 year since I backed up my computer, which is a stupid oversight on my part. So, I am doing it right now and am very angry to see all the posts everywhere for this problem from several years ago and no true answers yet.

    Hi Brandy,

    Where do we find the option to set a drive offline? I went to the location you are talking about, but there are no options to set a drive as, "offline". The only thing even close to it (but opposite) was to make my extra hard drive, "active".

    Now MS has me between a rock and a hard place. This month's black Tuesday patches are reputed to cause a BSOD on some systems. The workaround is to boot from a recovery disk and delete a file. However, I can't make a recovery disk. If the BSOD occurs, I seem to have no option at all from Microsoft.

    I guess I can make a Ubuntu disk and boot from that to remove the file.

    I wonder if Microsoft runs their business on Windows.

    Wonder no longer, it has been reported that Microsoft actually uses Linux on many of it's servers... if that helps.

    As far as this thread, the "solution" listed as an answer is neither solution nor acceptable answer. I presume then if I am not running Truecrypt and if removing all external disks doesn't work, then there is no longer a way to burn a system repair disk in Windows 7? Is this part of the master plan to get the whole world using that invasive data collection tool they call Windows 10?
