System repair disc could not be created__The parameter is incorrect. (0x80070057)

I get an error when I attempt to Create System Repair Disk in Windows 7 as follows:

Step 1: Press the Start button on your keyboard (the one that bears the Microsoft logo) or click the Start button from the bottom left hand corner of the screen.

Step 2: In the search box type in System Repair.

Step 3: Select Create a System Repair disk

Step 4: Take a blank DVD and put in the burning drive (DVD writer). You could also use a CD, just make sure it is large enough to store the System Repair Disc.

Step 5: Select the burning drive from the dropdown menu.

Step 6: Click Create disc.

A dialog appears immediately with the title "Create a system repair disc". It says

System repair disc could not be created

The parameter is incorrect. (0x8007057)

I verfied that the drivers on my Sony DVD RW drive are the most current, and I have no problems burning disks from other programs. I have tried using both CD-R and DVD-R media with the same result, but in fact the error appears so fast I don't think the drive is even accessed. There is nothing written to the event log.

Please help.

Hi Folks,

Also been caught by this error and could create a system image or system repair disk. Just as a last ditch effort I unmounted my encrypted partion (I use TrueCrypt to keep my company data safe) and so far it has bow at least allowed me to create a repair disk. I'm now going to try the backup without the encrypted drive mounted. I'll let you know if that succeeds. Not sure if the is the root cause of anyone else's issues but thought I'd post my findings...

Good luck...

Dave

I found another forum that suggested closing all programs that link to the cloud (e.g., DropBox, BoxCryptor, etc.). I did, and the disk was created easily... it finally worked!!

Closing BoxCryptor did the trick!  Thanks!

Well here it is October 2, 2015, I'm going to guess Cody never did do anything constructive with this problem. I have Win7 same problem  -- no fix. I can't wait til I'm forced to upgrade to Win10, and find out the same problem still exists. WTG Microsoft, how you continually ignore a problem for 10 years is amazing. Why don't you guys pony up here ,and tell your paying customers that you really don't give a rats patootie, and explain why the error occurs.

Well, I'm having the same problems with Windows 10. Mine is a new DELL laptop which came with Win. 8.1 installed. (They are still selling the same model, now with Win. 10 installed.) It worked OK out of the box but I hated the O.S. and free-upgraded to Windows 10 after one day.

I had many difficulties with this upgrade, partially due to my unfamiliarity. So I tried to get MS online assistance to help me, and it was (and is) a nightmare. Some of these "Technical Dept." operators could not speak any kind of English that I could understand. A few were indeed helpful but they timed-out, exceeding the limit that MS allows them to speak to a customer. So then I needed to phone in again and invariably ended up with an unhelpful person, and all that had been gained in the previous session was lost. A couple of operators put me on hold for about half an hour until the connection timed out. So now I have a computer that is bricked, and has a blue screen.  One operator had directed me on getting an ISO from MS for Windows 10, and that loaded partially but wouldn't complete. Then I learned that my product key from the Win. 8.1 would be no good for this new install, and the new operator (The 16'th) advised me to get Dell to repair the damage, and to purchase a new product key!

I've been trying to take things into my own hands now and I have this idea that I should try to make a system restore disc from my Windows 7 computer, then try to use it on the new Win. 10 computer. So now I'm getting all the same stuff that has been described by you all!
