I get an error when I attempt to Create System Repair Disk in Windows 7 as follows:

Step 1: Press the Start button on your keyboard (the one that bears the Microsoft logo) or click the Start button from the bottom left hand corner of the screen.

Step 2: In the search box type in System Repair.

Step 3: Select Create a System Repair disk

Step 4: Take a blank DVD and put in the burning drive (DVD writer). You could also use a CD, just make sure it is large enough to store the System Repair Disc.

Step 5: Select the burning drive from the dropdown menu.

Step 6: Click Create disc.

A dialog appears immediately with the title "Create a system repair disc". It says

System repair disc could not be created

The parameter is incorrect. (0x8007057)

I verfied that the drivers on my Sony DVD RW drive are the most current, and I have no problems burning disks from other programs. I have tried using both CD-R and DVD-R media with the same result, but in fact the error appears so fast I don't think the drive is even accessed. There is nothing written to the event log.

Please help.

Hi Folks,

Also been caught by this error and could create a system image or system repair disk. Just as a last ditch effort I unmounted my encrypted partion (I use TrueCrypt to keep my company data safe) and so far it has bow at least allowed me to create a repair disk. I'm now going to try the backup without the encrypted drive mounted. I'll let you know if that succeeds. Not sure if the is the root cause of anyone else's issues but thought I'd post my findings...

    Still no fix on this?  Putting in a disc first did not help.

    I have been getting the same kind of error. My laptop computer came with windows vista premium on it, I got it at the end of July of 2009, I believe that right. I believe that it was 2009 when windows 7 came out, in October. Anyway I got my laptop within the time frame where I got the free upgrade to windows 7. When windows 7 came out, I upgraded to windows 7 premium. Then in 2010, I believe, I upgraded to windows 7 pro, using the windows anytime upgrade option.

    I was able to create a system image backup that I saved to a external network hard drive. But when I tired to create a system repaid disc, I was getting the same error that others here has reported getting.

    After reading posts here about TrueCrypt. I have TrurCrypt and I have a partition. virtual drive created to store my financial information on, I don't have anything saved to it at this time. I am running system file checker from the command prompt. I did have problems with my laptop, and some files on my hard drive, had gotten corrupted and also I do believe that it had gotten some bad sectors. I was finally able to use disk checker to repair my hard drive. My laptop had been been getting hot and overheating, I guess, is one reason why it was shutting off all of a sudden. Anyway those problems are now fixed.

    I have now been able to successfully create a system repair disc. What I did was to unmount the virtual drive that I created in TrueCrypt. And also I put in a blank DVD-R in my drive before I clicked on the create system repair disc link in the control panel. Before I had clicked on create system repair disc before I had put in a blank disk into the drive, I had put the blank disk into the drive after I had clicked on create a system repair disc. So I don't know if that had anything to do with it.

    But for anybody that may be having problems in creating a system repair disc and do not have or use TrueCrypt. Be sure that you put a blank disc into your drive before you click on create system repair disc and see if that helps. If it does, then please come back here and post about what happens. As it could help others.

    I'm also getting this error on a brand new system. I'm not using TrueCrypt either.

    I have the same problem. Is Microsoft just not bothering to reply to this now? I don't use TrueCrypt or any other drive encryption program.

    This is amazing! An OS problem like this going back 3 years with no action from MS?
